La lucha libre femenina está viviendo un gran momento y Japón ha visto nacer y crecer a muchas luchadores que han llegado a la cima de la industria tanto para críticos como para fanáticos. Una de esta luchadoras es Sareee, conocida como “The Sun God”. La luchadora japonesa consiguió algo impensado en 2024 al ostentar 2 Campeonatos máximos de empresas (SEAdLINNNG y Marigold) y ganar los 2 premios de votación más respetados de la lucha libre profesional (Tokyo Sports y The Wrestling Observer), lo cual la llevó a ser considerada por muchos expertos como posiblemente la mejor luchadora del mundo.
Pep S. Caro tuvo la oportunidad de entrevistar a Sareee. Los temas abordados en esta entrevista fueron hacer equipo con Meiko Satomura en Fortune Dream 10, posibilidad de competir en Sendai Girls, rivalidad con Syuri y próximo combate por el Campeonato Femenino IWGP, posibilidad de enfrentar a Mayu Iwatani e Iyo Sky, posibilidad de volver a competir en Marigold, hacer equipo con Takumi Iroha en Marvelous, dream match, hobbies y más.

Entrevista con Sareee (Sareee ISM): Lo profesional y lo personal
Pep: ¡Hola, amigos! Bienvenidos de nuevo a este espacio. Nos acompaña una nueva luchadora que respondió a la llamada. Y esta vez tenemos la suerte de contar con una de las mejores del mundo. Ella es Sareee, “La Diosa del Sol”. Bienvenida, Sareee. ¡Gracias por estar con nosotros! Hoy queremos hacerte varias preguntas. Y vamos a empezar con uno de los combates más comentados que tuviste en marzo. En el evento principal de Sareee ISM Capítulo VII, te enfrentaste a Syuri. Tuviste un combate muy intenso que terminó en empate por tiempo límite. ¿Cómo te sentiste con este combate y qué crees que aprendiste?
Sareee: Bueno, luché contra Syuri en Sareee ISM Capítulo VII y quería enfrentarme a la más fuerte, así que me propuse enfrentarla. Al final, terminó en empate luego de 30 minutos, lo cual es realmente frustrante. Pero gracias a esto, estoy emocionada de que haya una secuela. Un nuevo combate con Syuri.

Pep: Este año te hemos visto competir un poco menos en comparación con cómo empezaste el año pasado. ¿Hay alguna razón específica por la que decidiste tener menos combates?

Quería preguntarte, ¿cuáles son tus metas para los próximos 365 días y cómo te gustaría celebrar una fecha tan especial?
Sareee: Todavía queda mucho de este año para empezar a pensar en mis metas para el próximo, así que mi meta para este año es portar el cinturón IWGP como es debido, y hay muchas otras metas, así que pensaré en el próximo año, el próximo. Pep: Hello, friends! Welcome back to this space. We’re joined by a new wrestler who answered the call. And this time we’re lucky to have one of the best in the world. This is Sareee, “The Sun Goddess”. Welcome, Sareee. Thank you for being with us! Today we want to ask you several questions. And we’re going to start with one of the most talked-about matches you had in March. In the main event of Sareee ISM Chapter VII, you faced Syuri. You had a very intense match that ended in a time limit draw. How did you feel about this match, and what do you think you learned from it?
Sareee: Well, I fought with Syuri at Sareee ISM Chapter VII, and I wanted to fight the strongest, so I made Syuri my mission. In the end, it ended in a 30-minute draw, which is really frustrating. But thanks to this, I’m excited that there will be a sequel. A new match with Syuri.
Pep: Perfect. Then you had another match that was very well-received, which was at the Kenta Kobashi-produced event, Fortune Dream 10. You made this Dream Team with Meiko Satomura as part of Meiko-san’s retirement tour, and you faced Team 200 KG, Chihiro Hashimoto, and Yuu. This was also the last match you participated in, which also included Satomura. So, what were your feelings about this match, and what do you think you learned from this match?
Sareee: Yes, that’s right. It was a really good experience. I was really happy to be able to team up with Satomura before she retired. But I was disappointed that we couldn’t win the match. But I was also really happy that Kobashi-san chose me for that event.
Pep: Ok! Following that, and also in other matches, both in Sendai Girls and Marvelous, we’ve noticed some tension with Chihiro Hashimoto, who is also the current Sendai Girls World Champion. And now that Meiko Satomura has retire from professional wrestling, do you have any intention of challenging for the Sendai Championship? Which is a title you’ve already held in the past. Do you think you should reach the top of SENJO in this new era they’re entering?
Sareee: Yes, that’s right. It’s changing. I want to fight in Sendai Girls. I want to compete. Yes, that’s what I think.
Pep: Thank you very much! We know that your priority right now, and you’ve said this on more than one occasion, is the IWGP Women’s Championship. It’s the belt you most want to win, and before the match between Mayu Iwatani and Syuri, you had said that you would be the one to take the belt from Iwatani. Unfortunately, Iwatani lost the championship at All Star Grand Queendom. You were there live, and the next day she announced her departure from STARDOM. How did you feel being there live in the arena for this title change? Do you consider it a kind of tragic fate that keeps you and Iwatani apart?
Sareee: I thought Mayu Iwatani would defend the IWGP belt with success (in STARDOM). I believed in her, so I was really surprised and wondered why. Why is this happening?
Pep: Ok! A few days ago, you appeared on STARDOM to formalize the challenge you’d previously issued against Syuri. You indicated that you wanted to face her on June 21st at Yoyogi. However, STARDOM announced that Syuri will defend her title first in England against Alex Windsor. Do you think Syuri isn’t taking you seriously as a championship challenger?
Sareee: I wonder why. I was supposed to challenge for the belt first. I’m a little angry about that.
Pep: And now, faced with the possibility of a completely different opponent, STARDOM announced that the match you’ll have on June 21st will be against the winner of the match in England. So, personally, who would you rather face? Syuri or Alex Windsor. And why?
Sareee: Of course, I want to fight Syuri. No, I really want to fight Syuri. We promised to fight and it ended in a 30-minute draw last time. So, I really want to fight Syuri.
Pep: Ok! Now moving away from STARDOM, you’re one of the most successful freelance wrestlers, and that’s allowed you to compete in many places. As we’ve seen with STARDOM recently, we also saw you last year with Marigold, where you were the inaugural world champion. There’s another wrestler who also stands out in that regard, Unagi Sayaka, someone who’s trying to get your attention. You faced her when you were Beyond the SEA Champion at SEAdLINNNG. Would you be interested in facing her again?
Sareee: Well, I guess what I’d say it’s annoying, but in a wrestling match there’s always going to be a difference in skill. So, right now, I don’t really want to fight with her.
Pep: Perfect, now moving on to another place we’ve seen you recently, which is Marvelous. You teamed with Takumi Iroha in what has been described by many as a sort of dream team. You won the one-day tag team tournament to become the next challengers for the AAAW Tag Team Championships. What was the preparation process like for you to form a team? And what was the experience of having three matches on the same show?
Sareee: Yes, I’m glad that we were able to win the one-day tournament. (Takumi) Iroha is a rival to me, so she is very important to me. So, I’m very happy that we were able to team up and achieve results with a tiring schedule. And now that we have the opportunity to challenge for the tag team championship, I want us to both win the belt.
Pep: We also saw a shift in personality for Magenta, Riko Kawahata, and Maria, during the show. They could pose a threat to a potential reign as AAAW Tag Team Champions.
Sareee: I haven’t fought the two of them (as a team) yet, so I can’t really say much about it. But I fought (Riko) Kawahata in a singles match not long ago and thought she was a really good wrestler, so I’d like to fight her again.
Pep: Now, at the end of the month, we have the anniversary event for Saori Anou and Natsupoi, who’s a good friend of yours. You’re going to face Aya Sakura, who’s the current Sendai Girls World Junior Champion and is also, let’s say, a kind of “little sister” of Natsupoi, now in Cosmic Angels in STARDOM. Sakura was the one who took the belt from Chi Chi back in the day. So, what’s your opinion of Sakura as a competitor? What kind of match do you think you’ll show us that day? And is there any other young talent now that catch your eye?
Sareee: Well, Natsupoi is my best friend, so I was really happy to be invited to the 10th anniversary event of that wrestler. And Natsupoi also asked me to do a singles match with her junior, Aya Sakura, so I think I need to convey those feelings to Aya Sakura in the ring.
Young wrestlers? Well, there is a wrestler called Miku Kanae, and she always appears in Sareee ISM, and she made her debut with Sareee ISM. And she is a student of Yumiko Hotta, and she trains with her and is a very hard worker, so she is a wrestler to watch at the moment.
Pep: Ok, back to Sareee ISM, it’s become one of the most anticipated events for fans worldwide. Each edition has been a resounding success, with tickets selling out the same day they go on sale. So, what’s the process like putting together the card and choosing the talent to participate? For example, you mentioned that Miku Kanae made her debut and has already been standing out despite being young. Do you have a tentative date for the next edition? Are you interested in holding an edition outside of Japan?
Sareee: Well, I’m putting together opponents that I want to compete against and cards that I want to see. I choose people I would like to face. That’s what I’m thinking. About the next Sareee ISM, I can’t say the date yet because it hasn’t been announced. But I can tell it’s planned for the summer. It will be announced shortly. Also, I already have the desire to do it abroad. I’d like to work in many places around the world.
Pep: Thank you very much for giving us this brief information about Sareee ISM, and now also addressing that topic, since you returned to Japan to compete more frequently, you haven’t gone abroad much. You were in the United States twice and once in England. You have a lot of fans around the world, which was evident when you won The Wrestling Observer award, which coincided with your Tokyo Sports MVP award. So, are you interested in competing abroad again, or do you think your priority should be Japan? Are there any organizations or foreign wrestlers that catch your attention?
Sareee: It was my dream, so I was super happy because it was my dream to be featured on Tokyo Sports as the best in Joshi Pro Wrestling. About going abroad, I would like to compete anywhere. If I get an offer, I will compete. I really want people all over the world to know about Sareee, so I would like to go as much as possible wherever I am invited.
Foreing competitors? I would love to fight Athena and Toni Storm.
Pep: Perfect, I think there will be a lot of promoters interested in you. So far, we’ve only seen you in Sukeban, where you’re the current world champion. And it would really be dream matches to see you face Athena or “Timeless” Toni Storm. Now, on this Tokyo Sports topic, it’s undeniable that there are currently three Japanese wrestlers who are considered the best in the world. In this case, they are Iyo Sky, Mayu Iwatani, and you, Sareee. Do you think there’s still a chance for some of you to face each other, let’s say right now?
Sareee: Well, if you ask me, I would like to fight Mayu. I lost before, so I want to win. I think I have to go for the win. Yes, I think I have to do it. I need to. I would also like to fight Iyo-san one day.
Pep: Ok! So, Iwatani is currently in Marigold, which, as I mentioned, is where you were world champion last year. In fact, the company’s first world champion. She’s indicated that she intends to win all of that organization’s championships. Including Pro Wrestling NOAH’s GHC Women’s Championship, which, while not as prestigious as the IWGP Women’s Championship, could be considered equivalent championships, coming from predominantly male companies. Sareee: Hmm, I haven’t fought her yet, so I think it’s something I will think about later. I haven’t fought her yet, but who knows later. I think the day will come when we will fight.
Pep: Ok! And regarding what I mentioned about challenging for other championships in STARDOM, do you have any interest in that?

Sareee: I like playing with dogs. With my pet dog. Well, when I’m not wrestling, I take care of my body, go for treatment, and go out with my dog Champ.
Pep: This year, we’ve seen you compete a little less compared to how you started last year. Is there a specific reason why you decided to have fewer matches?
Sareee: Hmm, I don’t know why it’s been reduced. Has it been reduced? Really? But I think I’m still competing in many matches!
Pep: While you’re currently focused on the IWGP Women’s Championship in STARDOM and New Japan, is there a chance you’ll compete again in Marigold in the future? Especially now that Mayu Iwatani is on the roster.
Sareee: I think there will be an opportunity someday.
Pep: Now, next year you’re going to celebrate an important date: your 15th anniversary as a professional wrestler, which is incredible, despite your young age, to be able to celebrate this milestone. Sareee: There’s still a lot of this year left to start thinking of my goals for next year, so my goal for this year is to properly wear the IWGP belt, and there are a lot of other goals, so I’ll think about next year, next year. For now, I want to do my best this year, and as I head towards my 15th anniversary, I want to achieve my current goals one by one.
