New Japan Pro Wrestling presenta el show titulado Hiroshi Tanahashi Homecoming en Gifu el 2 de noviembre. Entrevista con Hirooki Goto (NJPW): IWGP, Street Fighter, Tokyo Dome y más
Pep: Hace meses recibiste una mala noticia: sufriste una lesión que te impidió competir en el G1 Climax 35. ¿Cómo ha sido tu recuperación?
Goto: La recuperación fue un trabajo duro, pero todo un éxito. El brazo está al 100%.
Sin embargo, fue una verdadera lástima no estar en el G1. Creo que muchos fans querían verme alcanzar la racha de más inscripciones en el G1, así que que eso se detuviera fue una pena.
Pep: YOSHI-HASHI compitió en el G1 Climax este año y tuvo un buen desempeño, comenzando con una racha invicta. Muchos fans sintieron que también estaba dando el 120% en tu honor. ¿Qué impresiones te dejó su actuación este verano?
Goto: YOSHI-HASHI estuvo genial. Realmente lo tiene todo planeado ahora mismo, solo necesita los resultados. Me inspira mucho verlo luchar.

Pep: Una buena noticia después fue que te eligieron para el papel de E. Honda en la nueva adaptación cinematográfica de “Street Fighter”. ¿Qué significó para ti participar en esta película? ¿Cómo fue el proceso de rodaje de tus escenas?
Goto: No puedo hablar mucho sobre el rodaje ahora mismo, pero puedo decir que lo pasé genial. Fue una experiencia increíble; no quería que terminara.
Pep: Recordando tu reinado como Campeón Mundial Peso Pesado IWGP, que incluyó nueve combates por el título, ¿cuál consideras tu favorito? ¿Por qué ese en particular?
Goto: Creo que mi defensa favorita fue contra Hiroshi Tanahashi. Fue un obstáculo que no pude superar durante mucho tiempo, así que poder hacerlo fue enorme para mí. Pep: Regresaste a NJPW durante la conferencia de prensa de Destruction in Kobe, y ya sabemos que tu primer combate será en un combate por equipos de seis hombres entre Hontai y TMDK en King of Pro Wrestling el 13 de octubre. ¿Cuáles son tus sensaciones luego del combate?
Goto: Mi intención al llegar a Ryogoku era demostrar que la Revolución de Goto no había terminado y que la leyenda seguirá creciendo. Lo más importante, quería mostrarme en todo mi potencial y creo que al final de la noche lo logré.
Pep: La World Tag League 2025 está cada vez más cerca, y Bishamon es uno de los equipos más dominantes de NJPW. Pep: En Wrestle Kingdom 19, ganaste el combate de Ranbo en la previa, lo que finalmente te llevó a ganar el Campeonato Mundial Peso Pesado IWGP. Sin embargo, este combate fue parte de la previa, lo que significa que no estabas en la cartelera principal. En Wrestle Kingdom 20, si pudieras elegir, ¿qué tipo de combate te gustaría tener? ¿A quién te gustaría enfrentarte?
Goto: Mi primer objetivo es volver a ser campeón. Es mi máxima prioridad. Luego, en el Tokyo Dome, me gustaría pelear con cualquiera que haya saltado de aquí (NJPW) a AEW. Eso incluye a (Katsuyori) Shibata.

Pep: Some bad news months ago was that you suffered an injury that prevented you from competing in the G1 Climax 35. How has your recovery process been?
Goto: The recovery process was hard work, but it was a complete success. The arm is 100% now.
It was a real shame not to be in the G1 though. I think there were a lot of fans who wanted to see me catch up to the most G1 entries streak, so to have that stop was a shame.
Pep: YOSHI-HASHI competed in the G1 Climax this year and performed well, starting with an undefeated streak. Many fans felt he was giving his 120% in your honor as well. What impressions did his performance leave on you this summer?
Goto: YOSHI-HASHI was great. He really has it all lined up right now, all he needs is the results to come with it. I really get inspired seeing him wrestle.

Pep: One piece of positive news later was that you were cast in the role of E. Honda in the new film adaptation of “Street Fighter.” What did it mean to you to participate in this film? What was the process of filming your scenes like?
Goto: I can’t say too much about the shooting process right now, but I can say I had an amazing time. It was an incredible experience, I didn’t want it to end.
Pep: Looking back on your IWGP World Heavyweight Championship reign, which included nine title matches, which one do you consider your favorite? Why that one in particular?
Goto: My favourite defence I think has to be against Hiroshi Tanahashi. That was a wall I couldn’t get over for so long, so to be able to do it was huge for me. As you’ve seen, I came back mentally and physically ready to get that title back and be back at the front of NJPW, so send your support in November 2 for my match with Takeshita.

Pep: You returned to NJPW during the Destruction in Kobe press conference, and we already know that your first match will be as part of a Six-Man Tag Team match between Hontai and TMDK at King of Pro Wrestling on October 13. What are your expectations for that match?
Goto: My intentions going into Ryogoku were to show that the Goto Revolution wasn’t done and that legend will continue to grow. Most important I wanted to show myself at full power and I think by the end of the night I did that.
Pep: The World Tag League 2025 is getting closer, and Bishamon is one of the most dominant teams in NJPW. We’ve seen the Knockout Brothers take the tag team division by storm and win the IWGP Tag Team Championships on their first attempt against Taichi and Tomohiro Ishii. What are your impressions of this team? Are you interested in challenging for the titles?
Goto: The Knockout Brothers have definitely made a mark. I think they might be the most interesting pair of their generation to come back from excursion. We’ll see.

Pep: At Wrestle Kingdom 19, you won the Ranbo match on the pre-show, which ultimately led to your victory in the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. However, this match was part of the pre-show, meaning you weren’t on the main card. At Wrestle Kingdom 20, if you could choose, what kind of match would you like to have? Who would you like to face?
Goto: My first goal is to become champion again. That’s top priority for me. Then at the Tokyo Dome, I’d like to fight anybody that jumped over from here to AEW. That includes Shibata.
Pep: We want to know a little more about you. Could you please tell us about your hobbies? Could you please tell us what a typical day in your life is like?
Goto: Mainly I spend a lot of time with my kids. They grow up so fast, and I want to make the most of every moment with them growing up.
