New Japan Pro Wrestling viene realizando la gira de NJPW World Tag League 2025, torneo anual por equipos de la división peso pesado. Pep: Al regresar de México, la unidad con Shingo Takagi y Yota Tsuji se mantuvo igual de fuerte, y todos ustedes forman parte de “Unaffiliated”. Incluso adoptaron al joven Daiki Nagai, y el vínculo con Titan continuó. ¿Cuál es la relación actual entre los miembros? ¿Qué objetivos tienen como grupo?

Hiromu: Creo que el último medio año se ha tratado de libertad y responsabilidad; las he sentido con mucha intensidad a diario. Hay mucha más incertidumbre y tensión que cuando estás en una facción, pero hay mucho que disfrutar de esa incertidumbre. No diría que tenemos una visión compartida, por eso somos “Unaffiliated”, pero todos tenemos una perspectiva que los chicos de sus equipos no tienen. Cada uno puede hacer sus cosas por su cuenta, pero de alguna manera estamos conectados, y ese es un ritmo genial.

Pep: Luego, desafortunadamente, perdiste contra Kyle Fletcher en un combate del Campeonato TNT en Forbidden Door. Fue un gran combate contra alguien que ha sido campeón en parejas de NJPW, pero no ganaste el título. ¿Qué opinas de este combate? ¿Qué te parece el Fletcher actual?

Hiromu: ¡Supergrande, superfuerte, con super estilo! Fletcher puede hacer grandes cosas atléticas muy bien, pero también tiene un ojo para los detalles. Es intimidante, pero divertido; me alegra que hayamos tenido un combate por el título en ese gran escenario.

Pep: Calentaste el verano en Japón apareciendo en Pro Wrestling NOAH, anunciando tu intención de competir y poner a prueba el nivel de la división Jr. de NOAH. ¿Qué te impulsó a tomar esa decisión? ¿Cómo ha sido competir allí?

Hiromu: En realidad, lo que me impulsó a ir allí fue una simple pregunta: si Hiromu Takahashi no estuviera en NJPW, ¿hasta dónde podría llegar en otra empresa? Quería experimentar un cambio de ambiente, luchar contra tipos con los que normalmente no lucharía. No diría que hay una gran diferencia entre la división junior de NJPW y la de NOAH en cuanto a estilo ni nada; ambas divisiones tienen mucha historia y orgullo. Pero sí creo que en ambas compañías la gente se obsesiona demasiado con las etiquetas junior y heavy.

Pep: Durante King of Pro Wrestling, presenciamos un momento inesperado cuando David Finlay y Yota Tsuji acordaron una tregua. Actualmente, War Dogs y Unaffiliated están colaborando. ¿Qué opinas de las intenciones de Finlay? ¿Qué crees que pueden lograr ambos grupos juntos?

Hiromu: Nadie lo pudo ver venir. Sin embargo, cuando sucedió, pensé que si lo hacíamos bien, sería realmente especial, y eso fue emocionante. Ese tipo de cruce prohibido forma parte del romanticismo de la lucha libre profesional.

Pep: En la Super Jr. Tag League, formaste equipo con Gedo. Una unión sorprendente que tuvo una gran acogida entre los fans durante la gira. ¿Cómo fue hacer equipo con Gedo?

Hiromu: Fue otra bendición inesperada. Los resultados no fueron excelentes, pero aprendí muchísimo en cada combate, y esa victoria fue realmente significativa. Estar con Gedo simplemente cambia tu forma de abordar la lucha libre. ¡Como era de esperarse de “Pi-pi”!

Pep: Upon returning from Mexico, the unit with Shingo Takagi and Yota Tsuji remained just as strong, and all of you are part of “Unaffiliated”. You even adopted the young Daiki Nagai, and the bond with Titan continued. What is the current relationship between the members? What goals do you have as a group?

Hiromu: I think the last half year has been really about freedom, and responsibility as well- I’ve felt both pretty strongly every day. There’s much more uncertainty and tension than when you’re in a faction, but there’s a lot to enjoy about that uncertainty. I wouldn’t say that we have a shared vision among us, that’s why we’re Unaffiliated, but there’s a perspective we all have that the guys in their teams don’t. We’re all able to do our own things, but on some basis we’re connected, and that’s a cool pace to be.

Pep: Then, unfortunately, you lost to Kyle Fletcher in a TNT Championship match at Forbidden Door. It was a great match against someone who has been a tag team champion in NJPW, but you didn’t win the title. What are your thoughts on this match? What is your impression of the current Fletcher?

Hiromu: Super big, super strong, super stylish! Fletcher can do the big athletic things really well, but he’s also got a keen eye for the details as well. He’s scary good, but fun good; I’m glad we got to have a title match on that big stage.

Pep: You heated up the summer in Japan by appearing on Pro Wrestling NOAH, announcing your intention to compete and test the level of NOAH’s Jr. division. What prompted you to make that decision? How has it been competing there?

Hiromu: Really what prompted me to go there was just this simple question I asked myself- if Hiromu Takahashi wasn’t in NJPW, how far could he go in another promotion? I wanted to experience a change in atmosphere, wrestle guys I wouldn’t normally. I wouldn’t say there’s a huge difference between NJPW’s junior division and NOAH’s in terms of style or anything; both divisions have a lot of history and pride attached to them. But I do think in both companies, people geta little too hung up on those junior and heavy labels.

Pep: During King of Pro Wrestling, we witnessed an unexpected moment when David Finlay and Yota Tsuji agreed to a truce. Currently, the War Dogs and Unaffiliated are collaborating. What do you think of Finlay’s intentions? What do you think the two groups can achieve together?

Hiromu: Nobody could have seen that coming. When it happened though, what went through my mind was if we really did this right, it’ll be really special, and that was exciting. That kind of forbidden crossover, that’s part of the romance of pro-wrestling.

Pep: In the Super Jr. Tag League, you teamed up with Gedo. A surprising union that was very well received by the fans during the tour. What was it like teaming with Gedo?

Hiromu: It was another unexpected blessing. The results weren’t great, but I learned a hell of a lot from each match, and that one win was really significant. Being with Gedo just changes how you approach wrestling. That’s “Pi-pi” for you!

Pep: Gedo suggested you team up with David Finlay in the World Tag League. What do you think of this possibility? What are your expectations for this year’s edition as a former winner?

Hiromu: Teaming with Naito-san I was used as a weapon a whole lot. With Gedo, I was able to do the using. Now I’m being flung around by Finlay! I suppose it’s justice.

Pep: There’s been a lot of moving this year in the Junior Division and now DOUKI it’s once again the IWGP Jr. Champion. What are your thoughts on the current state of the division?

Hiromu: That rocket under DOUKI has been burning for a long time, and it’s really felt his has been the year he’s finally blasted into space.

Pep: At Wrestle Kingdom 19, you had a singles match against Tetsuya Naito, which was one of the main attractions of the card. If you could choose your match for Wrestle Kingdom 20, what kind of match would you like to have? Who would you like to face?

Hiromu: I still don’t have a match! I really should have been making more noise! But there’s no way Wrestle Kingdom can happen without Hiromu Takahashi, so you can look forward to me being there for sure.

Pep: We’d like to get to know you a little better. Could you please tell us about your hobbies? What do you do in your free time?

Hiromu: Recently my thing has been putting on some music and playing a lot of Street Fighter 6.
