DDT Pro Wrestling viene realizando su programación de otoño en Japón y en noviembre realizará una nueva edición de ULTIMATE PARTY. La edición 2025 del evento se realizará el 3 de noviembre en el Ryogoku Kokugikan de Tokyo. Uno de los combates confirmados para la segunda noche es un enfrentamiento entre The Apex, Strange Love Connection y Team 200KG por los Campeonatos KO-D en Parejas.

Pep S. Caro tuvo la oportunidad de entrevistar a Yukio Naya, miembro de The Apex y por tanto uno de los Campeones en Parejas de DDT, antes de este importante show. Yuki Naya, es uno de los luchadores de mayor progresión en el roster. Algunos de los temas abordados fueron sus inicios en la lucha libre profesional, ganar el D-Ou Grand Prix en 2023, retar por el Campeonato KO-D en 2024, ganar los Campeonatos en Parejas, sus hobbies, su vida diaria y más.

Nos gustaría destacar que esta es la primera entrevista que MAO realiza para un medio informativo en español y sin haber competido en un país en el que se hable ese idioma todavía.

Pep: ¿Por qué decidiste convertirte en luchador profesional?

Yukio: Entré en la lucha libre profesional porque Satoru Sayama, el primer Tiger Mask, me descubrió. Me uní al equipo recién graduado de la preparatoria.

Pep: ¿Tienes algún luchador al que consideres un modelo a seguir?

Yukio: Obviamente, debido a mi historia personal, no tuve muchos modelos a seguir durante mi infancia. Pero solía ver mucho contenido de NOAH en la década del 2000. Vi mucho a Marufuji y Kenta. Los veía pelear contra los luchadores más grandes. Me parecía genial verlos pelear contra los luchadores más grandes de la organización.

Pep: Eres parte de DDT. ¿Qué significa la organización para ti? ¿Qué significa para ti representar a DDT en otras organizaciones?

Yukio: Para mí, DDT es mi hogar. Es como volver a casa. Bueno, básicamente es mi hogar. Así que, cuando voy a otras empresas, ya sea NOAH o GLEAT, quiero demostrar lo buena que es DDT. Quiero demostrar que DDT está a la altura de cualquier otra empresa. Eso es lo más importante que tengo en mente cuando lucho en otras organizaciones.

Pep: Ganaste el D-Ou Grand Prix 2023 tras derrotar a Tetsuya Endo. ¿Qué significó para ti ganar el torneo? Endo actualmente está con NOAH, pero sigue formando parte de DDT. ¿Qué opinas de Endo como competidor?

Yukio: Ganar el D-Ou Grand Prix, en ese momento, fue el mayor logro que había tenido por mi cuenta, ¿no? Hasta entonces no había conseguido nada por mis propios méritos. Pero ganar el D-Ou fue lo que realmente impulsó todo para mí durante todo el año. Enfrentarme a Endo… es un luchador increíble. Es muy flexible. Es casi como un atleta perfecto, en cierto modo.

Pep: Luego, te enfrentaste a Yuki Ueno el año pasado por el Campeonato KO-D Openweight. ¿Qué sentiste al recordar esa lucha? Actualmente es el campeón nuevamente. ¿Qué opinas de Ueno como competidor?

Yukio: Bueno, en ese entonces, solo quería ganar el título máximo de DDT. Eso era todo en ese momento. Me di cuenta entonces de que Ueno no solo quería ser un campeón fuerte, sino que quería ver qué le deparaba el futuro. Cómo lograr que la organización adoptara una estrategia ofensiva y demostrara aún más lo increíble que es DDT. Y no solo era fuerte. Así que, en retrospectiva, eso es lo que sentí al entrar al combate.

Pep: También te enfrentaste a Yuki Iino el año pasado por el Campeonato Universal de DDT. ¿Qué sentiste al recordar esa lucha? ¿Qué opinas de Iino como competidor?

Yukio: Quiero superar a Iino. Tenemos la misma edad. Y, si no me equivoco, Takechi Kaisei también estaba en el evento. Así que vinieron muchos aficionados nuevos a ver a Takechi. Eran muchísimos, algunos quizás nunca habían visto lucha libre profesional. Por eso, Iino y yo queríamos mostrarles a todos estos nuevos aficionados lo increíble y lo aterradora que puede ser la lucha libre. Y, como luchador, Iino es probablemente el más atlético de todo el vestuario. Probablemente es el que más entrena en el dojo y en el ring. Así que lo respeto muchísimo.

Pep: En Ultimate Party 2024, te enfrentaste a Jun Akiyama en un combate individual. ¿Qué te pareció ese combate? ¿Qué opinas de Akiyama como competidor?

Yukio: Me preparé mucho para el combate. Me preparé muchísimo y, cuando entré al ring, todo lo que había preparado para Akiyama, él lo superó. Todos sabemos que Akiyama-san es una figura legendaria, un hombre de esa talla. Se notaba, realmente sentí la fuerza e incluso el miedo que inspiraba Akiyama-san cuando lo enfrenté en el ring. Así que, cada vez que intentaba tomar la delantera, Akiyama-san me superaba. Al volver a ver el combate, me di cuenta de que, cada vez que intentaba tomar la delantera, Akiyama-san me llevaba la delantera. Me sentí un poco decepcionado, considerando todo el esfuerzo que había dedicado a la preparación.

Pep: Este año formaste The Apex con Yuki Iino. Se han convertido en uno de los equipos más dominantes no solo en DDT, sino que eso les permitió derrotar a The Astronauts (Fuminori Abe y Takuya Nomura) en junio para ganar los Campeonatos en Parejas KO-D. ¿Qué les pareció ese combate? ¿Qué opinan de Abe y Nomura como rivales?

Yukio: Después de luchar contra The Astronauts, sentí que eran el equipo perfecto. La forma en que se complementaban, la manera en que se comportaban en el combate… Cuando atacaban, cuando se relevaban… En todos los sentidos, como luchador, son un equipo perfecto.

Estaba muy contento de ganar el título. Sentí una gran responsabilidad al convertirme en campeón de DDT. Inmediatamente después del combate, pensé en cómo ayudar a aumentar el valor de los cinturones.

Pep: En julio, derrotaron a Daichi Sato y Jun Akiyama para defender sus campeonatos. ¿Qué les pareció ese combate? ¿Qué opinan de ellos como rivales?

Yukio: Antes del combate creo que tuve una pequeña lesión en el cuello, me dolía un poco. Me sentí acorralado varias veces durante el combate. Pero, como competidor, Daichi es un estudiante de segundo año de preparatoria. Es muy joven, casi la mitad de mi edad. Creo que tiene 17 años. Para tener 17 años, tiene un físico imponente. Se mueve muy bien. Y lo que Akiyama san estaba haciendo era entrenarlo al máximo para que se convirtiera en un gran luchador y para impulsarlo al máximo. Nos dieron mucha presión a nosotros como The Apex durante el combate.

Pep: Why did you decide to become a professional wrestler?

Yukio: The reason why I got into pro wrestling was because I was scouted by Satoru Sayama, the first Tiger Mask. I joined in then as a high school graduate.

Pep: Do you have any wrestlers you consider your role models?

Yukio: Obviously, because of my backstory, I didn’t really had much as I was growing up. But I used to watch a lot of the product of NOAH in the 2000s. I saw a lot of Marufuji and Kenta. I watched them fighting against the bigger guys. I thought it was really cool, watching them fight against the bigger guys in the organization.

Pep: You’re part of DDT. What does the organization mean to you? What does it mean to you to represent DDT in other organizations?

Yukio: To me, DDT is home. It’s like going back to my own home. Well, it’s basically my home. So, when I go to other promotions, whether it’s NOAH or GLEAT, I want to show how good DDT is. I want to show how DDT is as good as every other promotion out there. So, that’s the most important thing that I keep in mind when I goes to wrestle in other organizations.

Pep: You won the D-Ou Grand Prix 2023 after defeating Tetsuya Endo. What did winning the tournament mean to you? Endo is currently with NOAH but remains part of DDT. What do you think of Endo as a competitor?

Yukio: Winning the D-Ou Grand Prix, at the point of time, was the biggest accomplishment I had on my own, right? Like until now I couldn’t really get anything using my own bare hands. But, winning the D-Ou, was the one thing that really got everything started for me in the whole year. So, facing against Endo, he’s an amazing wrestler. He is very flexible. He’s like almost like a perfect athlete in a sense.

Pep: Then, you faced Yuki Ueno last year for the KO-D Openweight Championship. What are your feelings about that match? He’s currently the Champion again. What are your thoughts on Ueno as a competitor?

Yukio: So, back then, I just really wanted to win like the top title of DDT. That was all at that point of time. I realized back then that Ueno was not just wanting to become a strong champion, but he wanted to see what lies ahead of becoming champion. How to get the organization move into the offensive ant show more how amazing DDT is. And he was not only just strong. So looking back then, that’s what I felt when I went into the match.

Pep: Also, you faced Yuki Iino last year for the DDT Universal Championship. What are your feelings about that match? What are your thoughts on Iino as a competitor?

Yukio: I want to surpass Iino. We have the same age. And, at the same time if I’m not wrong, Takechi Kaisei was on the show as well. So, there were a lot of new fans came to see Takechi. It’s a lot of new fans. That might have not seen pro wrestling before. So the two of us (Iino and I) wanted to show, how amazing and how scary wrestling can be to all these new fans. And, as a wrestler, Iino’s probably the most athletic guy in the entire locker room. He’s probably the one who does the most training in the dojo and in the ring. So, I really respect him a lot.

Pep: At Ultimate Party 2024, you faced Jun Akiyama in a singles match. What are your feelings about that match? What are your thoughts on Akiyama as a competitor?

Yukio: I had a lot of preparation going to the match. I prepared so much and then, when I went into the match itself, everything that I prepared for Akiyama, he surpassed it. We all know that Akiyama san is a man of that stature, a legend in the industry. You could really see, like I really felt the strength and in a sense of scariness of Akiyama san when I faced him in the ring. So, every time I try to take the advantage in the match, Akiyama san took the next step ahead of me. So, when I rewatched the match, I realized like, “Oh man, every time I tried to get the advantage, Akiyama san was pulling me all along”. I was a little bit disappointed in the sense, for all the preparation that I did into the match.

Pep: This year, you formed The Apex with Yuki Iino. You’ve become one of the most dominant teams not only in DDT, but that allowed you to defeat The Astronauts (Fuminori Abe and Takuya Nomura) in June to win the KO-D Tag Team Championships. How do you feel about that match? What do you think of Abe and Nomura as competitors?

Yukio: After fighting The Astronauts I felt like they were the perfect tag team. The way they teamed with each other, the way they carried themselves in the match. When they strike, when they tag. Everything in consideration as a wrestler, they’re like a perfect tag team.

I was very happy of winning the title. I felt this sense of responsibility after becoming a champion in DDT. Immediately after the match I was thinking on how to help increase the value of the belts.

Pep: In July, you defeated Daichi Sato and Jun Akiyama to defend their championships. How do you feel about that match? What do you think of them as competitors?

Yukio: Before the match I actually had a little bit of like a neck injury, I had some pain in the neck. I felt like I was cornered in during the match quite a few times. But, as competitors, Daichi, he’s a high schooler in his second year. So very young, almost like half my age. He’s 17 years old, I believe. So, for 17 years old, he has a very big body. He has very good movements. And what Akiyama was doing was there, he was doing his best to like train him up to be a great wrestler and to push Daichi all the way out in front. They really put the heat onto The Apex during the match.
