Entrevista con Yuki Iino (DDT): Lo profesional y lo personal – Parte 1

DDT Pro Wrestling viene realizando su programación de otoño en Japón y en noviembre realizará una nueva edición de ULTIMATE PARTY. La edición 2025 del evento se realizará el 3 de noviembre en el Ryogoku Kokugikan de Tokyo. Uno de los combates confirmados para la segunda noche es un enfrentamiento entre The Apex, Strange Love Connection y Team 200KG por los Campeonatos KO-D en Parejas.

Pep S. Caro tuvo la oportunidad de entrevistar a Yuki Iino, miembro de The Apex y por tanto uno de los Campeones en Parejas de DDT, antes de este importante show. Yuki Iino, es uno de los luchadores de mayor progresión en el roster. Algunos de los temas abordados fueron sus inicios en la lucha libre profesional, sus diferentes etapas en DDT, su reinado como Campeón Universal, ganar los Campeonatos en Parejas, sus hobbies, su vida diaria y más.

Nos gustaría destacar que esta es la primera entrevista que Yuki Iino realiza para un medio informativo en español y sin haber competido en un país en el que se hable ese idioma todavía.

Pep: ¿Por qué decidiste convertirte en luchador profesional?

Yuki: Cuando aún estaba en la universidad, veía lucha libre en la tele, sobre todo en J Sports, cuando todavía vivía en mi residencia. Veía la WWE, claro, y me influyó muchísimo porque quería hacer algo parecido. Buscaba fuerza, y pensé: ¿qué mejor que la lucha libre profesional?

Pep: ¿Tienes algún luchador al que consideres un modelo a seguir?

Yuki: En Japón, Daisuke Sekimoto. En el extranjero, creo que The Rock. Además, cuando vi a Brock Lesnar, sentí que era un pilar de la fuerza en la lucha libre profesional de aquella época.

Pep: Formas parte de DDT. ¿Qué significa la organización para ti? ¿Qué significa para ti representar a DDT en otras organizaciones?

Yuki: En DDT puedes hacer muchísimas cosas, muchísimos estilos de lucha libre profesional. Así que es un ambiente muy agradable. Quiero ser un pilar fundamental en DDT como luchador de peso pesado. Pero he hecho muchas cosas diferentes. Antes era Yuki “Sexy” Iino e hice un poco de comedia. Sé que puedo hacer comedia. Es un ambiente muy bueno para luchar. Quiero ser un gran luchador de DDT. Y si se me presenta la oportunidad, tal vez algún día pueda representar a DDT en emocionantes y largos combates de peso pesado en All Japan o New Japan.

Pep: Como miembro de DDT, has pertenecido a diferentes unidades: ALL OUT, Pheromones y Burning. Estos son diferentes momentos en tu carrera. ¿Qué te gustaría destacar de tu tiempo en cada una de estas unidades?

Yuki: ALL OUT era un grupo muy atlético, chicos muy buenos y con mucha energía. Acababa de salir de la universidad, con mi base de rugby, así que fue un primer paso muy sencillo al entrar en la industria. Realmente disfruté mi tiempo allí.

Durante mi etapa en Pheromones, sufrí una lesión lumbar. Dino me invitó a unirme al grupo y me esforcé al máximo en ese estado. Aunque mi personaje era un poco cómico, demostré mi fuerza precisamente con ese toque de humor.

En Burning, el grupo rebosaba pasión y energía. Hice equipo con Endo y Koroku. Fue un gran paso adelante, como pasar de ALL OUT a Pheromones y luego a Burning, lo que me llevó a donde estoy hoy.

Pep: El año pasado, tuviste tu primer reinado como campeón de parejas de KO-D con Tetsuya Endo. ¿Qué significó para ti ganar el cinturón? ¿Qué te gustaría destacar de tu reinado?

Yuki: En ese momento no lo sentí realmente. Ganar el cinturón por primera vez fue como: “¡Oh, gané el cinturón!”. Fue algo repentino, como un capricho. No me sorprendió del todo. Simplemente me convertí en campeón. Pero me alegró mucho poder formar equipo con Endo para convertirnos en campeones. Y, por supuesto, mi combate favorito fue contra Yuma Anzai y Ryuki Honda de All Japan. Porque realmente sentí que fue un choque entre organizaciones. En cierto modo, como una guerra sin cuartel. Y hacía tiempo que no luchaba contra alguien de otra empresa. Me gustó muchísimo ese combate.

Pep: El año pasado derrotaste a MAO para ganar el Campeonato Universal de DDT. ¿Qué significó para ti ganar el cinturón? ¿Qué te gustaría destacar de tu reinado como campeón?

Yuki: Como luchadora individual, realmente quería ganar un título individual. Y claro, como “Sexy” Iino gané el título Extreme, pero como Yuki Iino, quien realmente soy, me sentí muy feliz de ganar el título Universal, incluso más que de ganar los títulos en parejas. Diría que mi combate favorito fue contra Naya. Tenemos la misma edad. Así que, aunque ahora somos equipo como The Apex, en ese momento quería demostrar que soy el pilar de DDT con el choque de dos pesos pesados. Me gustó mucho ese combate en particular. Recuerdo que durante la mayor parte del año pasado estuve hablando de cómo debíamos demostrar lo grandiosa que es la división de peso pesado de DDT, y eso se pudo ver claramente en el combate.

Pep: Luego, junto con Naya, formaste The Apex. Se convirtieron en uno de los equipos más dominantes no solo en DDT. Eso les permitió derrotar a The Astronauts en junio para ganar los Campeonatos en Parejas KO-D. ¿Qué sentiste al recordar ese combate? ¿Qué opinas de Abe y Nomura como competidores?

Yuki: Los Astronautas son un equipo increíble. Ellos mismos fundaron la promoción de detectives luchadores. Son realmente emocionantes, asombrosos. Abe es muy agresivo y Nomura, cada vez que Abe ataca, Nomura responde al instante. En aquel entonces, nos unimos, éramos muy novatos, éramos un equipo, pero no teníamos mucha experiencia con los cinturones. Empecé a preguntarme: cuando Naya conectaba un golpe, yo tenía que responder, y Naya tenía que responder cuando yo atacaba. Pero queríamos demostrar nuestro orgullo. Al principio estábamos muy inseguros, pero con nuestra fuerza logramos superar a los Astronautas. Nos gustaban mucho los Astronautas y creo que son uno de los equipos más emocionantes de todo Japón.

Pep: En julio, derrotaste a Daichi Sato y Jun Akiyama para defender sus campeonatos. ¿Qué te pareció ese combate? ¿Qué opinas de ellos como rivales?

Yuki: Daichi Sato es muy joven, es increíble. Ahora mismo no conoce el miedo. Así que, da igual lo que haga, ya sea un codazo o un golpe, reacciona al instante. Por eso, haga lo que haga, aunque tenga un respiro, Daichi responde de inmediato. No tiene miedo. Es joven. Se enfrenta a cualquier reto. Y tiene una actitud muy positiva, siempre quiere seguir adelante, superarse. Es un talento joven y prometedor.

Akiyama-san, todos conocemos a la gran leyenda. Tiene una trayectoria impresionante. Tiene una larga carrera. Así que, hagas lo que hagas, responde al instante. Y, al enfrentarlo en el ring, sientes cómo emana su aura. Por eso, tuve que dar lo mejor de mí para responder a Akiyama-san. Pero claro, Akiyama-san es una leyenda. Responde a todo lo que hago.

Pep: El primer día de WRESTLE PETER PAN 2025, derrotaste a DAMNATION T.A (Daisuke Sasaki y Hideki Okatani). ¿Qué te pareció ese combate? ¿Qué opinas de ellos como competidores?

Yuki: Cuando te enfrentas a DAMNATION T.A, nunca sabes qué van a hacer. Sus asistentes siempre están merodeando fuera del ring. Si intento usar las cuerdas para ejecutar mis movimientos, me derriban. Así que, lo único que puedo hacer para detenerlos es enfrentarlos cara a cara y sacar a todos del ring. Sasaki tiene sus trucos sucios, pero Naya y yo tenemos la fuerza para pararlos. Aunque son un equipo un tanto tramposo, son un equipo muy consolidado y con mucha experiencia.

Pep: Why did you decide to become a professional wrestler?

Yuki: When I was still in the university, I was watching wrestling on TV, specifically on J Sports when I was still in my dorm room there. I watched WWE of course, and then it really influenced me a lot because I wanted to do something like that. I was looking for strength, and I thought were else but in pro wrestling?

Pep: Do you have any wrestlers you consider your role models?

Yuki: In Japan, Daisuke Sekimoto. Abroad, I think The Rock. Also, when I saw Brock Lesnar, I felt like he was the pillar of strength in pro wrestling back then.

Pep: You’re part of DDT. What does the organization mean to you? What does it mean to you to represent DDT in other organizations?

Yuki: In DDT, you can do a lot, a lot of kinds of pro wrestling. So, it’s a very enjoyable environment to be at. I want to be the pillar of strength in DDT as a heavyweight wrestler. But I’ve done a lot of different things. I used to be Yuki “Sexy” Iino and I did a bit of comical stuff. I know I can do comical stuff. It’s a very good environment to wrestle in. I want to be a great wrestler of DDT. And if I get the opportunity, maybe one day I could represent DDT in exciting an long heavyweight bouts in All Japan or New Japan.

Pep: As a member of DDT, you’ve belonged to different units: ALL OUT, Pheromones, and Burning. These are different moments in your career. What would you like to highlight from your time in each of these units?

Yuki: ALL OUT was a very athletic group, like very good high-paced athletic boys. I just came out from university with my rugby backbone in school so it was a very easy first step into the industry. I really enjoyed my time there.

And during the Pheromones, I actually had a lower back waist injury. So, Dino invited me to the stable and I tried to really do my absolute best in that particular state. And even though I was a bit more comical character, I really showed my strength in that comical fashion.

Whereas in Burning, that was a group of a lot of passion, a lot of energy. I teamed up with Endo and Koroku. It was a very good step up, like from going from ALL OUT to Pheromones to Burning, which led to what I am today.

Pep: Last year, you had your first KO-D tag team reign with Tetsuya Endo. What did winning the belt mean to you? What would you like to highlight from your reign as Champion?

Yuki: I didn’t really felt it at the moment. Winning the belt for the first time was like, “Oh, I won the belt”. It just came off a sudden, like out of a whim. I wasn’t really surprised in a sense. I just happened to become a champion. But I was very glad to be able to team with Endo to become champions. And of course, my most favorite bout was one against Yuma Anzai and Ryuki Honda from All Japan. Because I really felt that it was a clash between organizations. In a sense, like an all-out war. And it’s been a while since I with a guy from different promotions. I really liked that match a lot.

Pep: Last year, you defeated MAO to win the DDT Universal Championship. What did winning the belt mean to you? What would you like to highlight from your reign as Champion?

Yuki: As a singles wrestler, I really wanted to win a singles belt. And of course, as “Sexy” Iino I did win the Extreme belt, but as Yuki Iino, who I really am, I was very happy to win the universal belt and more than actually winning the tag belts. I would say that my favorite match was against Naya. We have the same age. So, even though we are currently a team as The Apex, but at the time I really wanted to show, that I’m the pillar of strength in DDT with the clashing of two heavyweight guys. I really liked that match in particular. I remember that during most of the last year I was talking about how we got to show how great the DDT heavyweight division is and you could really see that in the match.

Pep: Then, together with Naya, you formed The Apex. You’ve become one of the most dominant teams not only in DDT. That allowed you to defeat The Astronauts in June to win the KO-D Tag Team Championships. What are your feelings about that match? What are your thoughts on Abe and Nomura as competitors?

Yuki: The Astronauts are an amazing tag team. They formed the fighting detectives promotion on their own. And they’re really just exciting, very amazing. Abe is very aggressive and Nomura, like every time Abe goes for the offensive, Nomura follows up right after in the same second. So, back then, we just teamed up, we were very fresh, it was a tag team but we didn’t really have much experience with belts. So, I start wondering, like when Naya hit something, I have to follow up and there’s something Naya has to follow up when I’m at the offensive. But, we wanted to show our pride. We were really unsure at the first point, but, with our strength, we were able to surpass the Astronauts. We really liked the Astronauts and I feel that they are one of the most exciting tag teams in all of Japan.

Pep: In July, you defeated Daichi Sato and Jun Akiyama to defend their championships. What are your feelings about that match? What do you think of them as competitors?

Yuki: Daichi Sato is a young kid, he’s amazing. He doesn’t really know fear right now. So, whatever, it’s an elbow here or a strike there, he just responds immediately. So, whatever I do, even if I leave a short moment of rest, Daichi would immediately respond straight away. He has no fear. He’s young. He would just challenge anything. And he’s just very positive to keep going, challenge more and more things. So, he’s really amazing as a new young, fresh, up and coming talent.

Akiyama san, we all know the amazing legend. He has so much under his waist. He has a long career. So, whatever you can do to him, he will respond immediately. And, facing him across the ring, you can feel like his aura is just coming out from his body. So, I had to do my best to respond to Akiyama san. But of course, Akiyama san is a legend. He will just respond to everything that I do.

Pep: On the first day of WRESTLE PETER PAN 2025, you defeated DAMNATION T.A (Daisuke Sasaki and Hideki Okatani). What are your feelings about that match? What are your thoughts on them as competitors?

Yuki: DAMNATION T.A, when you face against them, you don’t know what they’re going to do. Their seconds are always lingering outside of the ring. If I try to run the ropes so I can hit my moves they’ll just pull my legs down So, the only thing I can really do to stop them it’s just beat them face to face and just clear everybody out of the ring. Sasaki has all his little cheap tricks but Naya and I have the strength to just stop them. But even though they’re like this kind of dirty team. They are really well stablish and well around team.
