MARVELOUS Pro Wrestling está viviendo un gran momento actualmente en rivalidad con Marigold, con Takumi Iroha como Campeona AAAW luego de vencer a Meiko Satomura y de haber realizado un show exitoso en Las Vegas durante Wrestlemania Week 2025. Pep S. Caro tuvo la oportunidad de entrevistar a Riko Kawahata, miembro del equipo Magenta. Riko quien respondió varias de las preguntas de Pep. Los temas fueron sobre por qué decidió convertirse en luchadora profesional, su vínculo con MARVELOUS, experiencia en SEAdLINNNG y en Actwres girl’Z, su primer enfrentamiento con Maria, unirse a Maria y formar Magenta, la gira en Estados Unidos, reencontrarse con Miku Aono en Marigold, su vida personal y mucho más.

Entrevista con Riko Kawahata (MARVELOUS): Lo profesional y lo personal (Spanish & English)
Pep: A finales del año pasado, celebraste tu sexto aniversario como luchadora profesional. ¿Por qué decidiste convertirte en luchadora profesional?
Riko: Tuve la oportunidad de interpretar a una luchadora profesional en una obra de teatro sobre lucha libre profesional. Luego me pidieron que me convirtiera en luchadora profesional. Nunca había oído hablar de la lucha libre profesional hasta entonces. Siempre me gustó hacer actividades físicas y pensé en probar.
Pep: Debutaste en Actwres girl’Z, una organización enfocada más en el aspect de entretenimiento de la lucha libre profesional. ¿Cómo describirías tu experiencia en AWG?
Riko: El ring es un lugar donde te ven desde diferentes ángulos y en todas las direcciones. Me impactó lo emocionante que fue expresarme a través de la lucha libre. También fue la primera vez que experimenté el dolor de un puñetazo o una patada.
Pep: En 2021, empezaste a competir con más regularidad en SEAdLINNNG. ¿Cómo describirías tu experiencia en SEAdLINNNG?
Riko: SEAdLINNNG es una organización que “exigía fuerza”, así que me golpearon muchísimo. Pero gracias a esa experiencia, por mucho que me golpearan, siempre me recuperaba. Por mucho que me golpearan, adquirí la fuerza para no rendirme.
Pep: A finales de 2021, empezaste a competir con más regularidad con MARVELOUS, una organización que podría considerarse tu hogar. ¿Por qué decidiste unirte a MARVELOUS?
Riko: Aprendí mucho del ambiente de los eventos que MARVELOUS crea y de las habilidades que desplegué en los combates. Quería unirme a MARVELOUS porque me gusta cómo hacen lucha libre profesional y quería aprender grandes habilidades de ellos.
Pep: En 2022, te enfrentaste a María por primera vez. ¿Qué recuerdos tienes de ese primer combate?
Riko: Nuestro primer combate fue individual. Se organizó porque teníamos la misma edad, pues acabábamos de cumplir 20. En ese momento, solo sabía que éramos luchadoras de la misma edad y con la misma trayectoria. No había sentimientos especiales.
Pep: Más tarde ese año, empezaste a formar equipo con María y se convirtieron en Magenta, uno de los equipos más populares de la actualidad. ¿Cómo describirías tu relación con María?
Riko: María y yo ahora somos buenas compañeras de equipo y nos entendemos muy bien. Nunca hemos tenido peleas ni discusiones porque pensamos igual. Tenemos una buena relación porque estamos juntas todos los días y nos apoyamos mutuamente.
Pep: Magenta logró ganar los Campeonatos en Parejas de AAAW y los defendió con éxito en dos ocasiones. ¿Piensas recuperarlos? ¿O tienes otros títulos en mente?
Riko: Tanto María como yo ganamos los títulos AAAW por primera vez en nuestras carreras, y es un cinturón que nos trae muchos recuerdos y quiero conservarlo para siempre. Me gustaría competir por los títulos de otras organizaciones para que seamos más reconocidas como equipo.
Pep: Debutaste en Estados Unidos en 2023. Te vimos en West Coast y Kitsune. ¿Cómo fue competir allí? ¿Hiciste turismo durante esas giras?
Riko: Fue una gran experiencia para mí disfrutar de las diferencias entre la lucha libre profesional estadounidense y la japonesa.
Muchos fans estadounidenses son muy emotivos, así que puedes sentir sus emociones incluso si no entiendes su idioma. Me alegra mucho ver cómo disfrutan de la lucha libre japonesa.
Lo único que hice durante mi estancia fue visitar las tiendas alrededor del hotel y comprar en el supermercado.
Pep: La semana pasada, Marvelous regresó a Estados Unidos y ofreció un show en Las Vegas. ¿Qué sensaciones te dejó la gira? ¿Tienes planes para esas fechas?
Riko: ¡Me parece maravilloso tener un evento de lucha libre profesional de MARVELOUS en Estados Unidos! Creo que hice todo lo posible para que la gente de todo el mundo supiera lo buena que es la lucha libre profesional de MARVELOUS. ¡No tenía planes turísticos! ¡Jajaja!
Pep: Si pudieras elegir a cualquier rival del mundo al que aún no te hayas enfrentado, ¿a quién elegirías?
Riko: Hay muchos luchadores, así que no lo sabré hasta que pelee.
Muchos luchadores profesionales nos visitan cada año (en MARVELOUS). ¡Me inspiran muchísimo cada vez!
Todavía quiero entrenar y pelear con luchadores que aún no conozco.
Pep: ¿Podrías contarnos sobre tus aficiones? ¿Cómo es un día típico en tu vida? Por ejemplo, un día en el que no tienes un combate.
Riko: Practico todos los días, incluso cuando no tengo un combate, así que me aseguro de descansar bien en mis días libres. Intento limpiar mi habitación y dormir mucho en mi tiempo libre.
Pep: MARVELOUS está actualmente en disputa con Marigold. Después del show del 10 de abril, Miku Aono anunció que tendrán un combate por equipos de 5 contra 5 en el espectáculo de Marigold en el Korakuen Hall el 25 de abril. ¿Cuáles son sus expectativas para este combate?
Riko: Siempre pienso que las habilidades que se muestran en los combates de MARVELOUS son las mejores. No tengo intención de perder contra nadie ni contra ninguna organización.
Tengo muchas ganas de encontrarme con Miku Aono, que también fue mi oponente en mi debut.

Pep: Para concluir esta entrevista, ¿tienes algún mensaje para tus fans de todo el mundo?
Riko: Creo que ser un luchador profesional se trata de “lo que puedes transmitir a la audiencia a través de la lucha en el ring que tiene cuatro lados”.
Sería muy feliz si cada fan pudiera sentir la expresión emocional y los combates creados por la luchadora profesional “Riko Kawahata” aunque sea un poquito y disfrútalo.

Pep: At the end of last year, you celebrated your sixth anniversary as a professional wrestler. Why did you decided to become a Professional Wrestler? What motivates you now to compete at the highest level?
Riko: I had an opportunity to play the character of a pro-wrestler for a stage play which was about pro-wrestling. Then I was asked to become a pro-wrestler. I had never heard of pro-wrestling until then. I always liked doing physical activities and just thought I’d give it a try.
Pep: You debuted in Actwres girl’Z, an organization focused more on the entertainment side of professional wrestling. How would you describe your experience in AWG?
Riko: The ring is a place where you would be seen from various angles in all four directions. I was shocked at how exciting it was to express myself through wrestling. It was also the first time for me to experience the pain of being punched or kicked.
Pep: In 2021, you started competing more regularly in SEAdLINNNG. How would you describe your experience in SEAdLINNNG?
Riko: SEAdLINNNG was an organization that “demanded strength,” so I was really beaten up and battered. But because of that experience, no matter how much I was beaten, I would get back. No matter how much I got beat up, I gained the strength to not give up.
Pep: At the end of 2021, you started competing more regularly with MARVELOUS, an organization that can be considered your home. Why did you decide to join MARVELOUS?
Riko: I learned a lot from the atmosphere of the events that MARVELOUS creates and the skills from the matches I had. I wanted to join MARVELOUS because I like they way they do pro wrestling in MARVELOUS and wanted to learn great skills from them.
Pep: In 2022, you faced Maria for the first time. What memories do you have of that first match?
Riko: Our first match was a singles match. It was set up because we were the same age, having just turned 20. At that time, I was only aware that we were wrestlers of the same age with the same career. No special feelings.
Pep: Later that year, you began teaming up with Maria and became Magenta, one of today’s most popular teams. How would you describe your relationship with Maria?
Riko: Maria and I are now good tag team partners and understand each other very well. We have never had a fight or arguments because we both think the same way. We have a good relationship because we are together every day and we support each other.
Pep: Magenta managed to win the AAAW Tag Team Championships and had two successful defenses. Do you intend to regain the championships? Or do you have other titles in mind?
Riko: Both Maria and I won the AAAW title for the first time in our careers, and the AAAW title is a belt that holds a lot of memories for both of us and I want to keep forever. I would like to challenge for the belts of other organizations so that we can be more recognized as a tag team.
Pep: You made your US debut in 2023. We’ve seen you at West Coast and Kitsune. What has it been like competing there? Did you do any sightseeing during those tours?
Riko: It was a great experience for me to enjoy the differences between American and Japanese pro wrestling.
Many American fans are very emotional, so you can feel their emotions even if you don’t understand their language. I am very happy to see the feeling that they are enjoying Japanese wrestling.
The only sightseeing I did during my stay was going to the stores around the hotel and shopping at the supermarket.
Pep: Last week, Marvelous returned to the United States and had a show in Las Vegas. How did you felt during this tour? Do you have any touring plans for those dates?
Riko: I think it is a wonderful thing to have a Marvelous pro wrestling event in the United States! I think I did my best to let people around the world know how good Marvelous pro wrestling is. I had no touring plans! LOL!
Pep: If you could bring any opponent in the world you haven’t faced yet, who would you choose?
Riko: There are really many wrestlers, so I won’t know until I fight.
Many pro wrestlers visit us every year. I get a lot of inspiration from them each time!
I still want to train and fight with wrestlers I don’t know yet.
Pep: Could you tell us about your hobbies? What’s a typical day like in your life? For example, a day when you don’t have a match.
Riko: I practice every day even when I don’t have a match, so I make sure to take a good rest on my days off. I try to clean my room and get a lot of sleep on my free time.
Pep: Marvelous is currently feuding with Marigold. After the April 10th show, Miku Aono announced they’ll have a 5-on-5 tag team match at Marigold’s Korakuen Hall show on April 25th. What are your expectations for this match?
Riko: I always think that the skills featured on MARVELOUS’s matches are the best. I have no intention of losing to anyone or any organization.
I am very much looking forward to meeting Miku Aono, who is also my debut opponent.
I would like to show everyone that MARVELOUS Pro Wrestling is the N° 1 Pro Wrestling organization through the competition between MARVELOUS and Marigold.
Pep: To conclude this interview, do you have any message for your fans all around the world?
Riko: I believe that being a professional wrestler is about “what you can convey to the audience through fighting on the ring which has the four sides”.
I would be very happy if each fan could feel the emotional expression and matches created by the pro wrestler “Riko Kawahata” even a little and enjoy it.
